Real Food Lifestyle Sessions – Weight Management and Type 2 Diabetes Programme

St Johns Medical Centre is working with the Public Health Collaboration Charity to provide “Real Food Lifestyle support sessions” from the surgery.

These are group, face to face sessions run weekly, one evening a week for about 1-1.5hrs over an 8-week period.

The sessions help to put type 2 diabetes in remission, and/or lose weight and improve overall health.

The sessions are run by a volunteer from the Public Health Collaboration – which is a charity set up by doctors, dieticians and other specialists to improve health & well-being and to deal with the growing epidemic of obesity & Type two diabetes. Our local volunteer, Laura Whittle, is a patient here at the surgery who has lost 10 stone in weight over the last three years and has vastly improved her lifestyle and she will share her journey and tips through the sessions as well as talking about:

• Sugar and blood glucose, monitors and testing
• Food choices
• The role of fats
• Ultra processed foods
• Shopping wisely
• Alcohol
• Exercise
• Mindfulness
• Sleep
• Intermittent fasting
• Diet and other medical conditions
• Eating out and celebrations

So, who is this course for?
This course is designed for anyone who wants to lose weight or improve their overall health.
The course aims to help you improve blood glucose markers and other health markers like cholesterol and blood pressure, to help you lose weight and to feel better overall, by introducing you to and helping you to adopt a real food lifestyle.

A previous participant on the session said,
“The course has been an excellent start in the journey to improve my overall health and well-being. The course content has enabled me to reflect and educate myself on the impact of different food groups on the mind, body and waistline! I have learnt a lot, in areas that I thought I understood relating to healthy eating and at times been reminded where I should refocus to improve further.
The facilitator, Laura, has encouraged group discussions along the way, to help and support us whilst acknowledging the hard work it takes to achieve the goals, we may have set ourselves. Laura, has been transparent and shared her experiences in her weight loss journey. This has helped us to see that change is possible.
Overall, the course has been transformative for me. I have enjoyed the group discussions around what is healthy eating and what is not, the food industry, packaging and the impact on the body. I have lost 1 stone 4 lbs in the 8 weeks of the course. The benefits of regaining movement in the body, a sense that the body is changing for the better, and a much-improved sense of overall wellbeing has been immense.”

There are limited places available and we will be in touch if successful. We will retain details so if future spaces become available on other intake dates we can get in touch.
