A temporary national programme of whooping cough vaccination is being put in place in response to the outbreak of infection.  Vaccination is being offered to women between 28 & 38 weeks pregnant to provide protection to newborns during the early weeks following birth.

It is also available for pregnant women beyond 38 weeks & to new mums who have not previously been vaccinated, up to when their child receives their first vaccinations.

We are obtaining vaccine supplies to accommodate the programme & will be contacting patients inviting them for vaccination.  Further information can be found in the attached Whooping cough leaflet & Whooping cough factsheet, or via the following link.  Details can also be discussed with the midwife during practice antenatal clinics.
